p3232: We had been traveling all day since leaving Phari out onto the Lang-ma Plain under a leaden sky. For some reason this is known as the plain of the Weeping Elephant. If ever an elephant had come here he would start weeping so bleak and unfertile it seems. But when you have decided that nothing could be more unattractive suddenly there is a slight change in the wind, the curtain goes up. We were not sorry to see the end of the plain of the Weeping Elephant and you see this splendor of Himalayan snow peaks. This is Chomulhari.
