Introduction to the Department of Religious Studies and its resources:

"California Contours" Project - books available on religions in California by UCSB faculty

Recent two-volume encyclopedia, Contemporary American Religion, edited by the Academic Director with over 500 entries, many written by UCSB faculty and alumni.

b)Afternoon Session - Overview of the Program

The Academic Director will provide a comprehensive overview of the principal objectives and topics to be covered in the institute. Themes of religious pluralism, voluntarism, separation of church and state, religion and politics, religion in public life, civil religion, and religion and culture -- with attention to "Major Features of Religion in the U.S." Lecture and discussion.
