More Departmental Transitions

Since our last issue we have had still more transition in our department. Regina Kogan left for a seminary in Israel in February, and Judy Polak retired in June. We now have Cori Montgomery as Undergraduate Program Assistant/Front Desk and Donna Craig as Financial Assistant. Here is some information to acquaint you with them:

Cori Montgomery was born and raised in Santa Barbara and currently lives downtown with her husband, Dennis, and baby girl, Aidan, who was the “millennium baby” of Santa Barbara County (the first baby born in the entire county in 2000!). After attending Santa Barbara City College she came to UCSB and earned her B.A. in sociology and art history. When she used to have free time she could be found surfing the waves at local beaches, watching period films, and spending leisurely hours at museums. Now she devotes her time to introducing Aidan to the wonders of life, and trying desperately to get caught up on her sleep. Before coming to the Department of Religious Studies, she worked as an advisor in the Health Professions Office where she discovered her love for advising. She has felt at home in Religious Studies since day one thanks to the incredible students, staff, and faculty. Contact her at cori@humanitas.ucsb.edu.

Donna Craig, Financial Assistant has worked on campus since September of ’79. Her first position was with the Police Department, working in the administrative office and then in the parking citation office. From there she worked in the Alumni Office as the executive secretary for the director. After having her first child she switched to the Biology Department, working part-time as the project coordinator for one of their professors. From there she went to the Chemical and Engineering Department and worked for the past 14 years as financial assistant in the contract and grants department. She and her husband, Lance, transferred here from the Bakersfield area in 1977, both with county jobs in line. They have two children, Michelle, age 16, and Sean, age 10; and two dachsunds, George and Queenie; all living happily in Goleta and glad to be out of Bakersfield. Donna enjoys doing the usual family activities: she’s on the PTA board at Sean’s school and involved in lots of car-pooling for the kids’ school activities and sports. She and Lance recently celebrated their 25th anniversary. Donna enjoys walking as her main form of exercise and getting together with friends is her favorite hobby. She wants you all to know she is very happy to be on board here at Religious Studies and is enjoying her new duties and co-workers. Her email address is craig@humanitas.ucsb.edu.
